Legend, emperors, and the perfect cup

Legend dates Hupao—“Dreaming of the Tiger Spring”—to 819, when two tigers pawed open a water source for a monk. Its clear, soft water later became inseparable from Longjing tea. The Qianlong Emperor visited Hupao Temple during his southern tours and included Hupao among the celebrated waters he compared and ranked.
